Creetown granite street furniture

Creetown Gem Rock Museum is worth a visit. The Prospectors’ Pantry in the Museum serves lovely home baking. Elderly visitors should avoid the rock cakes, a new top set of gnashers could be quite expensive.

Motorhomers, near to Castle Douglas is Threave Castle;

James 2 resented the power of the Douglases. In 1452 he invited William the 8th Earl to Stirling under safe conduct to negotiate their relationship. During the meeting the 21 year old James drew his dagger and stabbed him. His courtiers joined in and William was dead.

Immediately the 9th Earl sprang to arms proclaiming the King a murderer and outlaw. James’s Parliament replied by stating that;

“the Earl was guilty of his own death by resisting the King’s gentle persuasion”.

Newton Stewart

Newton Stewart for walking

Newton Stewart has long been a favourite town for walkers. Whether looking for an afternoon stroll or coastal walk. At Creetown there is a community woodland project. A choice of waymarked trails meander through the woods.
