Cruising Fife by Motorhome

Largo Harbour

Visit the East Neuk of Fife by Motorhome

Alexander Selkirk

Born in Largo the Scottish sailor spent four years as a castaway
On an uninhabited island in the South Pacific
He was concerned for the seaworthiness of his ship
His captain Thomas Stradling tiring of his dissent
Granted Alexander’s wish to be left on the island
His travails were the inspiration for Daniel Defoe’s novel
Robinson Crusoe.

Robinson Crusoe

One day an exhausted Alexander’s hopes of being rescued arose when a passing Glasgow clipper ship appeared on the horizon. The second mate was peering through his telescope and spotted a heavily bearded and bedraggled figure frantically waving at them from the top of a headland. He had the remnants of a kilt hanging from his rather skinny frame. He spoke to his captain;

‘Josie, there’s a punter waving at us from that headland, do you know him?’

‘Naw, Francie, I don’t know the guy, the nutter waves at us every year when we sail by, ignore him Francie.’

‘Sure, Josie, sure, Josie.’

Joe Sharp

Perhaps you would enjoy reading the adventures of Francie and Josie.
