Galloway Forest Park has been officially unveiled as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK

Threave Castle

Threave Castle is open to the public during the summer
It is about 1 mile west of Castle Douglas
The Castle is on an island in the middle of the River Dee
Getting to it is an exciting yet frightening experience
At Kelton Mains farm take the path until you arrive at the shore of the River Dee
There you will find a small jetty and a Transilvanian brass bell with a rope pull
Ring this bell loudly and the angry boatman will come across from the Island
He may look a little scary with his large black cape and turned up collar
With his tightly drawn lips not quite hiding the two enormous canine teeth
Do not worry as long as you make sure you get back to the Motorhome before midnight
I hope that you will have a pleasant night’s sleep when back at the Campsite
