Mons Meg

Mons Meg is over 550 years old. She was built at Mons in Belgium. This enormous ‘Bombard’ was first put to use in 1460 at Roxburgh Castle near the border with England.
She was fired in 1558 to celebrate the marriage of Mary Queen of Scots to the French Dauphin, Francois.

The Motorhomers have stopped at the castle;

‘Ok, Francie, you load yin o’ yon cannonballs intae the barrel. I’ll aim the bombardment toward Dunoon. We’ll show yon ‘Shot Putters’ at the Cowal Games how it’s done,’ said Josie.

‘Sure, Josie, sure, Josie,’ said Francie. ‘Eeaow! Josie, I’ve drapped the damn thing oan my foot and I cannae get my foot oot,’ yelled Francie.

‘Dinnae ye worry, Francie, I’ll awa’ and get the heavy squad tae lift it aff yer foot. Dinnae ye move, Francie,’ said Josie.

‘Duhh! Sure, Josie, sure, Josie,’ said Francie.
