The Empire Exhibition, Bellhouston Park, Glasgow, 1938.

The Empire Exhibition was held at Bellahouston Park in 1938. Despite 1938 being one of the wettest summers on record, the Exhibition attracted 12 million visitors. The International Exhibition of 1888 was held at Kelvingrove Park. The Palace of Art is the only surviving structure left on the site.

The foursome were sitting on a bench outside the Palace of Art in Bellahouston, eating salmon sandwiches and drinking Irn Brew;

‘Och, neigh mare, Jessie, neigh mare, ye know whit happens when ye make me laugh,’ said Phemie.

‘I wis only four, Josie, an’ I fell doon. I wis greetin’ an’ my mammie picked me up. I remember my daddie sayin’, “Och, Annie, when is that wean goin’ oan the dummie, he only needs tae show his ‘petted-lip’ an’ ye’ve goat him oan the breest.”

‘Whit did I tell ye, Phemie?’
